IPL, LED & Microdermabrasion Treatments

IPL

IPL – Intense Pulsed Light

IPL (or intense pulsed light) is a gentle and well tolerated treatment that is very popular with clients because it permanently removes hair, lightens dark spots, reduces redness, and overall makes skin look better without makeup.

What is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Treatment?

IPL is a non-invasive medical technology that uses light therapy for permanent hair reduction, eliminating age spots, sunspots, freckles and discolouration of the skin, superficial capillaries and other benign vascular lesions.

How does IPL work?

IPL works on similar principles as laser in that light is absorbed into certain target cells with colour in the skin. The laser converts to heat, which damages the target cells while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. Different wavelengths of light are absorbed for different treatments according to skin and hair types.

What can be achieved with IPL treatments?

•   Permanent hair reduction – in most cases the majority of hair will not return after a short series of treatments.
The course of treatments will usually be six to eight treatments with four to six-week intervals.

•   Skin pigmentation – reduction in the colour of pigmented lesions caused by sun damage. IPL provides a gradual and natural improvement to the skin, which is long lasting. Sun damage seen on the backs of hands, décolletage and face will respond well.
The course of treatments will usually be three treatments with two to three-week intervals.

•   Vascular lesions – facial vascular blemishes (fine, thread-like vessels on the cheeks and around the nose) can be reduced.
The course of treatments will usually be three treatments with two to three-week intervals.

•   Acne – we can offer an Acne Management Program. Results will vary, however most people will see a significant improvement in skin condition, especially if they combine treatment with our ASAP cosmeceutical products (endorsed by dermatologists).
Four to six treatments will be needed with one to two-week intervals.

•   Skin rejuvenation – this is an anti-ageing treatment which will improve skin-tone and texture. IPL will refine and refresh by increasing the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. Fine lines and wrinkles may soften, while redness on the chest and neck can also be treated.
The course of treatments will usually be four to six treatments with two to three week intervals.

Who is suitable for IPL?

Most people may be treated with IPL. If you have a health concern, it is advised that you consult your GP. A skin consultation will determine the parameters and suggested results for your skin type.

Do IPL treatments hurt?

You will feel a slight pinch, similar to the feeling of a rubber band snapping, however no local anaesthesia or pain medication is required. With hair removal, the level of pain reduces with each treatment. With pigmentation, the level of pain reduces along with the level of pigmentation.

Are there any side effects from IPL treatments?

You may experience some short-term side effects such as slight reddening of the skin or local swelling, which disappears within a few hours. When treating pigmentation, these areas may darken for a few days after treatment.

LED Light Therapy

What is LED Cold Light Skin Therapy?

LED Cold Light Skin Therapy is the latest therapy in non-ablative collagen building for ageing skin. Red LED light activates collagen, so it renews itself resulting in reduced wrinkles and increased elasticity of the skin.

Skin Rejuvenation

There are two main causes of ageing. Chronological ageing is the effect of time on our body, and photo ageing is a result of the sun’s harmful rays. As we age, the amount of collagen below our skin diminishes and our skin becomes less flexible. The result is drier, thinner skin as our body’s natural regeneration process declines and the skin loses its ability to retain moisture. UV in sunlight compounds this issue further.

What are the benefits of LED Light Therapy?

•   Photo rejuvenation
•   Acne
•   Wound healing
•   Botox without injections (results will last up to two years)
•   Reduction of wrinkles and improved quality of skin by up to 60% (for 10 x 20 minute treatments)

Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is the most natural way to evenly and safely exfoliate the skin without chemicals or laser. The exfoliation process rejuvenates the skin by using diamond heads to remove the upper layer of the epidermis. Studies have shown that Microdermabrasion increases the production of collagen and elastin. The final result is firmer, more youthful skin over time.

How does it work?

Diamond Microdermabrasion relies on the Microdermabrasion tips covered in tiny diamonds to perform skin exfoliation. When the diamond tips make contact with the skin, it abrades against the top layer, pulling it off. The Microdermabrasion machine then sucks the loose dead skin cells away from the face.

What kind of results can be expected?

In addition to surface exfoliation, Microdermabrasion promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layer of the dermis.

Microdermabrasion will minimise:

•   Fine lines and wrinkles
•   Dull or congested skin
•   Acne and scarring
•   Enlarged pores and blemishes
•   Age or sunspots
•   Chickenpox scars and scratches

How many treatments are necessary to see results?

Results can be seen after the first treatment, however the most dramatic results will be seen between four and six treatments.

How often should Microdermabrasion be performed?

Microdermabrasion should be performed once every two to four weeks for a great result. Your therapist can also recommend a maintenance schedule that is suitable for you.

Is Microdermabrasion only for the face?

Microdermabrasion can be performed on any part of the body.

Who can undergo Microdermabrasion?

Anyone interested in improving the appearance of his or her skin, regardless of skin type or age.
What is the average treatment time of Microdermabrasion on the face?
Use of the equipment is typically 10-15 minutes. The entire procedure including pre and post treatment protocols is 30-40 minutes.

What will my skin look like after the Microdermabrasion treatment?

Your skin may appear slightly red for a period of two to 24 hours. This is typically a result of exposure to aluminium oxide, however when used with the LED Light Therapy, the redness disappears very quickly. Your skin will have a vibrant, healthy appearance as well as an incredibly smooth feel.
